What began as a ten-year labour of love, restoring a small cluster of old buildings into a graceful homestead, is now a warm and stylish retreat hosted by Ciara and Eamonn Cullen. From the monastic valley of Glendalough and its celebrated Spink trail to Djouce, Maulin and the iconic Sugarloaf, there is a walk for every mood and ability. Try the Powerscourt Waterfall loop for a scenic moderate day out.
Roundwood itself sits among Ireland’s highest villages at the edge of the National Park. It is a superb launchpad for lakes, forests and wildlife.
Ride the Ballinastoe trails for flowing forest singletrack and mountain views, or head to Beyond the Trees in Avondale for treetop vistas from the 38 metre tower.
Take the legendary Sally Gap for dark mirror lakes, heathered bogs and wide open Wicklow views. Stop at the Lough Tay viewpoint on the R759 for one of Ireland’s most iconic outlooks.
Within easy reach you will find Powerscourt’s manicured fairways and the classic Druids Glen course, both ideal for combining golf with sea and mountain scenery.
Stroll to The Coach House for seasonal plates or settle into the characterful Roundwood Inn, famous for its pint of Guinness and hearty food. For daytime treats Roundwood Stores does excellent coffee and a midweek pizza night. The Heather in Laragh is a reliable favourite for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
